Port Vila Update

Port Vila Update

Got a lot of messages from some of you about ways we can support the Port Vila community during this season—thank you for reaching out.

Spoke with HC Jimmy this morning, and I'm glad to share he'll be traveling to Port Vila tomorrow to be with his family.

Quick update from this end: had a video call this morning with Karl Guillain from Stanley Imports, our Blue Star partner in Vanuatu. He gave me a real-time walkthrough of Port Vila post-earthquake. The damage is evident—cracks on Lini Highway, compromised buildings, and the town looking eerily deserted. It's heartbreaking to see. Beca and GNS teams are prioritizing assessments.

Karl emphasized the urgent need for communication in the outlying areas. While network connections are back up, Starlink provides a more reliable and long-term solution. Stanley Imports, one of only two licensed Starlink resellers in Vanuatu, is stepping up.

Karl has offered to supply Starlink sets at cost to help with the recovery. They'll set up community access points once the sets arrive. Right now, the sets are stuck at AKL International cargo and have been delayed three times.

He confirmed that food and water are no longer a pressing need—local supplies are sufficient. I've cross-checked this with Ni-Vanuatu contacts in the affected communities.

If you're looking to help, channeling funds toward Starlink sets could make a real difference. It’s about keeping families connected, especially with Cyclone warnings threatening other islands, which could further impact Port Vila.
